Shem Mountain is about 880 meters above sea level and represents the entrance of Shem Fjord from the west side and is one of the most beautiful mountains in the region where it is called by local people (Sheikh’s Belly or Sheikh’s Horn).

One Day Trekking: Includes boarding and return on the same day where boarding is at 09:00 a.m. and returning at 04:00 pm approximately.
Overnight Trekking: Included day trekking and camping on the mountain with lunch, dinner, and breakfast.

Jabal Shem (Shem Mountain)
The Mountain overlooks the tourist creek. Spectacular views of the area inspired tourists and visitors to call it “the Norway of the Arabs”. By climbing the top of Shem Mountain, you can see many waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman, and the Arabian Gulf Sea.
Besides you can see many picturesque scenes of the villages: Nazifi, Qana, Maqlab, Sibi, and The Village of Shem. From the top of the mountain, you can also see Telegraph Island, Sibi Island, Najd Fjord, Hablin Fjord, Ghub Ali Fjord, Shisa Fjord.
On Shem Mountain, there are some historical monuments such as the copper piece installed in the mountain, the Omantel Transmission Station, and some caves.
What To Expect?
Besides you can see many picturesque scenes of the villages: Nazifi, Qana, Maqlab, Sibi, and The Village of Shem. From the top of the mountain, you can also see Telegraph Island, Sibi Island, Najd Fjord, Hablin Fjord, Ghub Ali Fjord, Shisa Fjord.
There are also some other scenes for some of the villages in the area around like Gasah, Qada, Ras Sheikh Massoud, and Al Harf besides Khasab City.
On Shem Mountain, there are some historical monuments such as the copper piece installed in the mountain, the Omantel Transmission Station, and some caves.
There are many trees that have been linked to the traditional environment for the people living in the area that can be found on the mountain- characterized by their hardness such as Mazzy Trees which have been used for making the famous Omani Jerz (traditional walking stick) as well as some other trees such as Acacia Trees, mountain figs, some Sidra Trees and Shawa trees. There are some other plants and some herbs.
You can also find traces of old wheat farms and some old houses.
In addition, there are many animals that were previously found, such as tigers and lynx, but over time they have become extinct. Now, there are also other animals such as mountain goats, some foxes, and some birds such as falcons.
Shem Mountain is famous for its abundance of honey bees, brown and original cedar. The mountain also features its coolness in winter and moderate temperatures during the summer.
The Mountain is a tourist site that is suitable for the practice of mountain trekking. A sportsperson takes between two and a half to three hours while an average person can take about four hours.
Some sports people prefer to spend overnight at the top of the mountain in addition to enjoying the atmosphere of nature and watching the stars from the top of the mountain. On the other hand, others return on the same day without an overnight stay.
Everyone coming from UAE is supposed to have Oman visit visa that can be applied online at https://evisa.rop.gov.om/ or on the border as well. If you are planning to get the Oman visit on arrival from the border, you must comply with the below details:
- Vaccination: All participants above 18 years must have a vaccination certificate in printed form.
- PCR: All the participants older than 12 years must present printed negative PCR taken within 72 hours from the time of arrival at the Oman border.
- Passport Validity: Everybody must carry an original passport valid for more than 90 days from the travel date.
- Oman Visit Visa: It will be 35 AED for each UAE exit fee and 5 OMR for Oman visit visas applied on arrival from the border.
- Visa Validity: If a UAE resident, then the visa must be valid for more than 90 days from the travel date.
- Sponsored Visa: If you have a sponsored (dependent) visa, the sponsor must be traveling along.
- Eligibility: All professions for UAE residents are not eligible for an arrival visa. Contact us to check your visa eligibility.
- UAE Single Entry Visa: UAE single entry visa holders are not allowed because their UAE visas get canceled while exiting UAE.
- Car Ownership: You must carry a vehicle registration card (Mulika to cross the border.
- Car Insurance: If you don’t have one, you can buy it from the border. (around 100 AED)
- Rented Car: If you have a rented car, you must get a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the Car Rental Company to cross the borders.
